2 Peter
Sharing in the Divine Nature
Did you know that God intends for you to become more and more like Jesus in this life? Did you know that He has already given you everything you need to live a godly life? That is the glorious message of 2 Peter! The apostle Peter also makes it clear, though, that we have an important role to play in that process. Becoming more like Jesus (“sharing in the divine nature”) will take effort on our part, a lot of effort. And it will also require that we identify and reject popular false teachings that lead Christians to believe that how we live ultimately does not matter. The danger is real. As 2 Peter makes clear, false teachers will not only be found “out there” on the internet, on TV, or in other churches; they will also be present in many of the better churches today, on the better Christian websites, at the better conferences, and in books coming from the better Christian publishers. And “many” will be deceived by them. Thankfully, God not only clearly shows us in 2 Peter what he has given us as followers of Jesus and what he expects of us, but he also gives us some very helpful tests for identifying false teachers and avoiding false teachings.
